We currently migrate to MediaWiki from our old installation, but not all content has been migrated yet. Take a look at the Wiki Team page for instructions how to help or browse through our new wiki at wiki.linux-vserver.org to find the information already migrated.
Automatic Conversion
Use these commands to convert a guest image using default baselayout:
# CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/init.d /etc/inittab" emerge sys-apps/baselayout-vserver # emerge -C baselayout # cd /etc && rm make.profile # ln -s ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/${arch}/vserver make.profile
Manual Style
Note: Information below is really out of date, please see above or the [Gentoo VPS project] for more information
This is how I got Gentoo to work as a guest.
I used util-vserver-0.26 for this, versions before that and/or the other vserver tools may not have the bits for basic Gentoo support.
Make the following changes BEFORE running "vserver blah start" for the first time.
Then you should be able to start/stop the vserver without too much garbage.

In very old versions of the vserver utilities you will also need to edit /usr/sbin/vserver in the parent machine because Gentoo uses /sbin/rc instead of redhat's /etc/rc.d/rc
